Last night we pulled in to the Bedrock for L.A. RECORD's crazy Christmas party. I didn't get to check it out in full swing, but on my pre-service search for a restroom, I was wowed by the maze of lockouts that had been converted to pop-up stores and music venues. If you're a musician in search of a space to rehearse, the Bedrock is definitely a place to check out!
L.A. RECORD sure knows how to throw a party! The parking lot was packed with revelers taking smoke and fry breaks. I'll post a link to L.A. RECORD's pics when they post them since, as usual, I forgot to take any of my own. If I had remembered, I'd have a few shots of all the Colt 45 cans lining the truck window, the sea of people outside the Bedrock's doors and the dozen guys who pushed our truck out of the driveway at the end of the night (unfortunately, it appears our transmission needs a replacement)!

Rainy Days and Plenty of Events

Due to the rain, the Show N Shine charity meet and raffle for today was canceled. They're rescheduling it for next month at a new location, so stay tuned! We also have a couple more charity events on the docket for next week.
First up: A Night on the Racetrack, Toy Drive & Tastemakers’ holiday event benefiting My Friends’ House Foundation. The event will be held at K-1 Speed Indoor Go-Kart Racing on Tuesday, December 15th from 7-11:00 PM in Torrance, CA. Bring an unwrapped toy valued at $10 to get discounted admission to the event, which will feature food trucks, music spun by DJ Kaleem and, of course, go-karts!

Later in the week, we'll be at the L.A. Record Xmas party, which is free with an rsvp and the donation of a toy! Live music will include: The Soft Pack, Abe Vigoda and Leslie and the Badgers with beats by Daedelus, Daddy Kev, Nobody, Kutmah, Take AKA Sweatson Klank, Matthewdavid, Sodapop and more... More includes an all-vinyl dance party, pop-up stores (by burger records, vacation records, haute olive, dim mak, cubtrina)...
My fingers are getting tired typing about it, so check it out at http://larecord.com/rsvp/
Despite the rain, we're still heading out to the Bruery for their Beer Geek event tonight, and later, to Sacred Fools Theater to dish out fries when Serial Killers lets out. Come out for a beer or a show (or both), but don't forget your galoshes!

The Perils of Parking a Food Truck
The Frysmith crew worked our first full schedule last week and haven't had a moment to spare to update this blog! We knew beforehand that food-trucking required a lot of hard work and long hours, but you can't fully comprehend it until you actually do it!
The biggest challenge we've found isn't the 14-hour days or the physical demands but finding a good place to park. We tested out a variety of lunch spots last week: Hollywood (@djcarlorossi says we "dominated Sunset Blvd"--we're touched!); Ventura Blvd (@lofigirl, we're always happy to "rock the valley"); downtown LA (sorry to the ladies who were waiting for us on Grand... no spots to be found!) and Wilshire (what a crowd in front of 5900)!
At our Encino stop, a nice guy originally from Massachusetts (who was thrilled that we sell birch beer) asked us why more gourmet trucks don't visit the valley. After trying some unconventional spots, we have to say it has to do with volume. Over the hill there's just a lot more people walking around and wanting some mobile grub.
Interacting with those customers has to be the funnest part of the job. Last week we got the scoop on UCLA parking from Tro, learned about the fake no-parking signs on Wilshire from another fan and started recognizing our die-hard followers who seem to find us wherever we land.
Our first week ended Saturday night around a quarter to 2 in the morning at the Sacred Fools Theater. Theater people are great! They help call out numbers in their booming stage voices, cheer when their (or anyone's) fries are up and even applauded us as we closed up shop. We'll definitely be back next Saturday!

Our New Mascot
What are the important ingredients to success in the fast food world? Quality, price, location and most importantly, awesome mascot. We're working hard to make good on the first three, but now we've got the mascot covered.
This one-eyed beaut was made for us by Elizabeth Romo, a talented graphic designer and Brook's almost cousin-in-law. He doesn't have a name yet (Frylock's taken, and I can't think of anything less lame than the Fryster right now). Liz makes a series of cool, one-of-a-kind plushies. You can email her at elizabethromo22@yahoo.com or check out her website.
