Lummis Day this Sunday!

This Sunday we'll be at the Lummis Day Festival! With nearly 100 performers and artists from 17 bands and dance troupes, plus dozens of artists, craftspeople, and community groups participating, it will be a blast. Performers on the three stages at Heritage Square Museum will represent an eclectic mix of cultural traditions and artistic styles.

Performing artists will include Tex-Mex artist and Emmy Award-winner Ruben Martinez and his Balladeers, Latin-Ska-Reggae band Upground, salsa artists The Susie Hansen Latin Band, jazz artists the Elliot Caine Quintet, country artists The Dime Box Band, the Gabriel Reyna Flamenco Troupe, dancers Las Alazanas , Ballet Coco, alt-country hillbilly punk band, The Evangenitals, the Oaxaca Dance Company, the Puppets & Players Theater, the Cypress Park Four Square Church Band, and local rockers Ann Likes Red and Driven. The gala poetry reading at Lummis Home—which has evolved into one of Southern California's best attended and most anticipated poetry showcases, will feature writers Mariano Zaro, Cece Peri, John Brantingham and Suzanne Lummis, plus the music of Evangina's Juli Crockett and Lisa Dee.

Paintings, sculpture and assemblage by a dozen artists will be hung at Lummis Home, which will remain from noon to 5:00pm. Over a dozen artists will be represented in the exhibition, including Rebecca Pollack, Cliff Janes, Cha-Rie Tang, Jack Rohman, Yolanda Gonzalez, Karen Merchant Yates, Lisa Worksman, Ada Pullini Brown, David Botello, Ramon Ramirez, Rude Calderon, Tina Gulotta Miller, Diane Behrens, Jose de Juan and Darcy Hawes.

We'll start slinging fries at 12:30, so you can take a break from the festivities and load up on crunchy, cheesy goodness. The Day starts at 10:30 with poetry at the Lummis House(200 East Avenue 43), while the stages (and food) will be at the Heritage Square Museum (3801 Homer Street) starting at 12:30pm!
